Art Suite
The Project
Curated by Corinna Turati and Edoardo Monti, the Suite Art project involved Dutch designer Sabine Marcelis in the conception and production of a ‘site-specific work for the De La Ville hotel (Roccoforte collection). Her artistic residency at the hotel, embellished with an itinerary to discover the hidden gems of the Capital (custom-designed for her by Corinna Turati), resulted in the colors, shapes, energy and atmosphere of the city taking shape in a spherical work that was unveiled in the court of the Rocco Forte Hotels address on Via Sistina.
Hotel de la Ville
Hotel de la Ville
Located just above the Spanish Steps, the Hotel de la Ville has always been a landmark for celebrities and European aristocrats fleeing to the Eternal City. After a three-year renovation, it has reopened its doors with much more polish. Designer Olga Polizzi infused the structure with character and style, choosing strong colors and bold lines. Adding to the wonder is the enchanting inner courtyard-a place where classic Italian charm meets the contemporary. There is no better place for a drink in the heart of the Urbe! For all these reasons, we chose the Hotel de la Ville as the location for the first project in the Suite Art series.
Sabine Marcelis
Sabine was born in Alkmaar, Netherlands, but at the age of 10 moved with her family to New Zealand. She grew up there spending a lot of time in nature and outdoors, which had a great impact on the way she worked and sought inspiration. At 21, she decided to study design at Victoria University in Wellington, but after just two years, her strong connection to the Netherlands brought her back to her native country. She then enrolled in the Design Academy Eindhoven (DAE), where she was able to express her creativity more freely. Immediately after graduation, he opened his private practice, in Rotterdam. He knew that what he wanted was to explore his interests and independently build his artistic trajectory, rather than work for someone else. For the first two years she worked alone as a freelancer; but over time, as she tells it, she was fortunate to assemble a fantastic team of talented people to work side by side with.
“I don’t like labels, I studied as a designer and my mindset is that, which means there is reasoning behind every decision made in the design process. Anyway, I move in multiple fields of work, such as art and architecture. I like to explore and discover new types of production and materiality on different scales. This freedom makes me feel lucky, as I perceive what I do as a way of life and not as an obligation. Even when I am away from the studio, I think of new projects. I love what I do and this motivates me in everything.”
